 Theme - In The Garden

Main Areas of Study

 Mathematical Development

    • Listen to and join in with rhymes, songs and stories and games that have a mathematical theme.
    • Demonstrate an awareness of the purpose of money through role play
    • Recite numbers from 0 to 10.
    • Develop counting and number recognition skills.
    • Recognise and use the names for 2D shapes (circle, square and triangle) within play activities and the environment
    • Use and build with 2D and 3D shapes within play-based activities
    • Use a variety of media to develop concept of symmetry
    • Use words that describe temperature during everyday activities, e.g. hot/cold

Language, Literacy and Communication

    • Looking at focus letters of the week
    • Recognising their names.
    • Begin to overwrite names.
    • Listen and join in with simple stories and songs e.g. the very hungry caterpillar.


  •    Discuss the weather on a daily basis.
  •    Learning the names of colours and numbers.
  •    Learning action songs.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

    • Life cycle of the butterfly and frog.
    • To look at minibeasts, go on a minibeast walk.
    • Collect and examine natural objects under magnifying glasses.
  •     To look at colour in the world around us.

Personal and Social Education.

      • Circle time – sharing ideas and opinions.
  •     Looking at ourselves, keeping fit, healthy eating, brushing teeth, handwashing etc.

Ways Which You Can Help At Home

  • Please send in any interesting objects/photographs to school (not valuable items please) 
  • Please share your child's library book at home every night (a Reading Diary is provided for you to make comments)
  • Please bring library books in to school on a Tuesday ready to have a new book sent home on Wednesday.
  • P.E lessons will take place after half-term, day to be confirmed.
  • We offer the children a variety of fruit.  Please send in £1 for fruit on a Monday
