Theme - Explorers
Using the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (Y2) to solve mathematical problems.
Reading scales and using negative numbers(Y2) when reading temperatures.
Using money to pay for items up to £1 and finding change from values up to £1.
Telling the time to the nearest quarter hour on digital and analogue clocks.
Literacy, Language and Communication
Explanation writing– read and write simple explanation texts.
Information writing – write information texts about different countries.
Narrative – looking at settings, characters and plots within stories and writing their own stories.
Handwriting Nelson scheme of work used. 4 basic joins taught and use of pens introduced.
Spelling- Children sent spelling words home (high frequency) weekly spelling tests carried out in school, and being able to use these words in context.
Reading – daily reading and comprehension work from fiction and non-fiction texts.
Knowledge and Understanding
People and place – identify similarities and differences between different countries and the locality. Identify natural features on a map.
People and time – identify how transport has changed over time. Identify how places have changed over time. Study an explorer from history.People and non-living things – explore how sound is made and travels.
