Main Areas of Study

Mathematical Development...

  • Rec: Shape: recognise and name common 2D shapes (circle, square, triangle and rectangle) and some 3D shapes (cube, cuboid and sphere) within play activities and the environment. Use 2D and 3D shapes to make models and pictures. To complete a simple symmetrical picture through a variety of media. Temperature: use direct comparisons when describing temperature, e.g. hot/cold. Money: To use 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p coins to pay for items. Counting: to recognise and count forwards and backwards to 20.

    Year 1: Shape: recognise and complete a symmetrical picture or simple shape. Use 2D and 3D shapes and describe how they fit together. Recognise and name common 2D shapes (square, triangle, rectangle, circle and semi-circle) and 3D shapes (cube, cuboid, cone and sphere) in order to begin to compare and sort. Temperature: Use descriptive words for a range of temperatures, e.g. cooler/warmer. Money: Use different combinations of money to pay for items up to 20p. Fractions: find halves in practical situations and recall halves up to 10.

Language, Literacy and Communication

Handwriting sessions. Learning basic joins. Shared reading and writing. Pie Corbett inspired story writing. To recognise and use the phonemes from Jolly Phonics. To recognise and use the phonemes from Jolly Phonics.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

  • Life cycle of the butterfly and frog. To look at minibeasts, go on a minibeast walk. Collect and examine natural objects under magnifying glasses. To look at colour in the world around us.

Personal and Social Education

  • Looking at the emotions jealous and content 

Ways Which You Can Help At Home

  •  Please send any interesting objects/ photographs to school (not valuable items, please)
  • Please hear your child reading at home every night (a Reading Diary is provided for you to make comments).
  • Homework will be sent home every Friday, to be in by the following Tuesday (Year 1 only).
  • P.E. kit will be needed at the start of term. Please provide your child with shorts, t-shirt and gym shoes in a bag with their name clearly marked. Kits will be sent home half termly for washing.
  • We offer the children with a variety of fruit. Please send in £1 on a Monday.
